Handmade American Girl Doll Clothes

My niece has a birthday coming soon.  This year, she wanted some clothes for her American Girl Doll.  Have you seen the prices for those outfits? $30 for one outfit? Seriously?  My  mom decided that she could make a few outfits.  She went to the fabric store and found a pattern for doll clothes.  Then she got busy sewing.

She calls this the Marsha Brady look, with the retro pants.

Here's her evening gown.
Check out the beading!

I love this little outfit.

Do you see all of those little beads?  Yes, she sewed each one by hand.

Look at the little ruffles on the skirt and shirt. Too cute!

At the end of the day, every girl needs jammies and a bathrobe.

I didn't play with dolls too much as a kid, but my daughter and I had a great time with our American Girl photoshoot.  Brooklyn (that's the doll) was totally workin' the runway!

Happy sewing!

  1. Wow! Those are amazing outfits! My daughter is TOTALLY in love with all things American Girl. My niece was crazy about them too. My niece was even Molly in the American Girl Review in Chicago years ago...she made more money acting in Chicago than I did as an adult, teaching! Anyway, our whole family is very familiar and I can tell you those outfits are just PRICELESS! What a thoughtful gift! I know my daughter would love every one of them! I just got a sewing machine for my 40th b-day and I am kind of teaching myself to sew. I hope I can learn how to make cute doll clothes before she gets too big to play with dolls! Thanks for sharing!!

  5. This can be a perfect gift for little girls who have American Girl dolls. The designs look stylish. I think it can also be replicated on a larger scale. Little girls would go gaga over these doll wardrobes.

  7. Making the doll’s outfit is a fun and practical idea! The doll is expensive in itself, so you don’t need to add her collection of clothes to your list of expenses. What's more, you’ll be free to actually choose your own design and fashion based on your taste. It’s good to know you’re enjoying this task. Happy sewing, indeed!
